Anyone at all familiar with vacuum cleaners has heard of top name brands like Dyson and Kirby. These popular manufacturers guarantee the durability of their vacuum cleaners and claim they are lightweight and easy to use. In fact, they glorify the fact that they can reach hard to reach places and navigate tight spaces, making them capable of picking up dirt virtually anywhere.
In all honesty the claims are true. Famous brands like Dyson do in fact suck up dirt, food particles, and debris, but they also suck money right out of your wallet. In order to be the proud owner of a Dyson, you need to shell out at least $400 or more of your hard-earned dollars. A Shark vacuum may not enjoy the same brand recognition as Dyson and others with decades of experience in the business, but it does an equally good job for more than half the cost.
Does a Shark Vacuum Really Compare to a Dyson?
If you ever saw a Shark suck pet hair right up out of the carpet, you wouldn’t be asking this question. Thanks to its light 15-pound weight, the Shark is quite easy to maneuver and push as well. Best of all, there are no messy and inconvenient bags to deal with as the Shark uses a unique filter system that only needs to be emptied and cleaned out two times a year. If that weren’t enough, Shark vacuums also come with the same five year warranty as Dyson models.
Pros of the Shark
• Lifetime belts and washable filters
• Easy to empty dust container
• Lightweight, compact, and maneuverable
Cons of the Shark
• Relatively small dust capacity
• Perhaps not as durable
Is a Shark Better Than a Dyson?
While shark vacuums certainly have their merits, when all is said and done, they are not necessarily better than a Dyson. When you perform a side-by-side comparison of the two vacuum cleaners, there is little to no difference in ease of use, cleaning ability, and warranty coverage. In the end, the price tag is the only discernible difference. The average Shark costs $200 and under while Dyson vacuum cleaners typically cost $500 or more.
That being said, some people occasionally pay more for certain products due to a number of reasons. The largest reason is that some products have a higher perceived value and are thus superior to similar products that cost less. In some cases, perceptions and reality align, and in others, they don’t. People also tend to pay more for a certain product over a less expensive product simply because it is a status symbol. Some people take great pride in owning what others believe to be the best, including vacuum cleaners.
The Final Verdict
If someone wants to purchase higher priced products that are perceived to be of higher quality, or if they simply want to show off their top of the line products for family and friends, then more power to ‘em. However, if one product costs $300 and a similar product with practically identical features and performance costs $150, most people are going to choose the second product and keep an extra $150 in their pocket. Whenever someone gloats about owning a Dyson, Shark owners everywhere just pat their wallets and smile.

In 2013 Apple promised a “cheap” iPhone and delivered the iPhone 5c in September. Released simultaneously with the iPhone 5s, the 5c is $100 less and comes in a variety of colors. At $99 with a two-year contract from the service provider, the 5c is perhaps not the miraculously affordable iPhone many people hoped for. At the same time, it’s not a plastic toy, as many had feared. While it’s not as advanced as the 5s, the 5c is a step up from last year’s iPhone 5.
The most noticeable thing about the 5c on the surface is, of course, color. The plastic case comes in a choice of blue, green, pink, yellow or white (curiously absent is black; once the only option for iPhones.) The 5c is almost the same size as the 5 and 5s – but not quite. The difference in dimensions, as well as the rounded back, means that cases for the 5 and 5s won’t fit the 5c. Apple is selling 5c cases, in all the colors the phone comes in plus black, for $29. One of the first steps homeowners take when beginning a bathroom renovation is shopping for the accessories, fixtures, cabinetry and flooring to go into the bathroom. Below are some tips for making this process a pleasant experience:
Create a budget:
Before going to the store or browsing online for materials, you should set a budget for your bathroom remodel, and determine to stick to that set amount of money. You can set limits on items such as spending only $100 on accessories and no more than $400 on a vanity, or you can simply have an overall amount of money you want to stay under to allow for some flexibility. Regardless on your method, having a predetermined budget is a must to ensure you procure all the necessary items for your remodel without running out of money prematurely. Continue reading
